I AM SUCH A GEEK ABOUT MY RELIGION.
And I...I love her. Marian devotion is actually kind of a big thing to me. I'm sorry, I know it's unfashionable to get all sappy about one's religion, but...I really, really love her.
Let's begin with the classics.
Ooooh, I love the way they've set up the sun and moon here. And, of course, Mother Mary's indispensable cloak of starlight.
A prayer card! My mother used to collect those when she was growing up Catholic, like some people collect baseball cards. Now, I, uh...*shifty eyes*...I may or may not do the same. Like I said, SUCH A GEEK.
Switching it up a bit, here's an Eastern Orthodox icon of Mary Theotokos (God-Bearer). Note the pimped-out crown.
I love the Blessed Virgin Mary, how she trolls the little patriarchal crybabies. Awwww, poor Low Church conservatives, does an icky vagina as adopted ruler of the universe and Mother of God really hurt your fragile male egos that much?
Oh, yeah. Work it, Mother of God. You know you're awesome.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
